Caribbean shifted away from tobacco and other crops to sugar production

 

Made islands of Caribbean the most valuable colonies to European nations

 

Caused armed conflicts between European nations over the sugar trade'

 

 

Maize was discovered by Europeans and became the foundation of Columbian food exchange

 

Maize help alleviate famine in Europe which enables the surplus of people to colonize the Western Hemisphere

Maize became a staple crop of early European settlers.
