College Board  - An Update to the Exam Timing - 2015 APUSH Exam

We're making an additional change to the format of the redesigned AP U.S. History Exam, which will first be administered in May 2015. The short-answer question timing will increase by five minutes, and the free-response section timing — specifically, the recommended timing for the document-based question — will decrease by five minutes:

55 multiple-choice questions: 55 minutes, 40 percent of exam score 9/29/2014 - Test #1 1491 to 1754

Four short-answer questions: 50 minutes (formerly 45 minutes), 20 percent of exam score   10/8/2014  ; 10/27/2014

One document-based question: 55 minutes (formerly 60 minutes), 25 percent of exam score 10/3 2014  The French and Indian War (1754)

One long essay question: 35 minutes, 15 percent of exam score Test #1 10/21/2014 Test #2 The Road to Revolution

The number of questions in each section and the total timing of the exam remain the same. This change was made as a result of analysis of a pilot exam administered earlier this year and is designed to ensure adequate time for students to respond to all questions.
