By 1763 the natural western boundary of the English colonies was the Appalachian Mountain range. The British crown created the Proclamation line of 1763 to prevent colonial settlement west of the Appalachian Mountains

 

WHY: the Crown could not protect colonists from the Indians that populated the Ohio valley

 

WHY NOT:the were in debt from the French and Indian War and did not have the cash to pay an army
